Who Is Captain Hooks

Cpt. Hooks is not scared to cross borders with his music. This versatile artist delivers a mixture of pop, hip-hop, and rock, bringing a fresh new sound with an edge to it. His music has a feel-good vibe that makes people want to dance. Hooks is currently working on his debut album Walk The Plank, set for release in the fall of 2011. The first single off the album, title Happy Times with production by Juno award-winning producer Beat Merchant, was released on June 28, 2011.

Jamaican-born and raised in Toronto, Danial Santana Brown’s involvement in music began with rapping and freestyle battle. Cpt. Hooks moved to New York City at 18 and had the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge of the music industry. Working with artists like Juelz Santana and Capon, Hooks perfected his technique to the point where he could create lyrics and record songs from memory, without writing anything down. He is sought-after for his solid lyrical skill and the instantly catchy hooks that got him the name “Cpt. Hooks.”

In 2009, Hooks released his track “Don’t Stop” which got airplay across Canada and garnered the title of top song on several mainstream radio stations. The video for the  single reached heavy rotation on Much Music. In September 2010, Hooks wrote the song “Reach for the Stars”, which he performed with Karl Wolf for the official launch of the 2010 Pan/Parapan American Games in Toronto. Hooks collaborated on the track “Future Soundz” with Ivana Santilli of CP Records, and was featured on the single “Must Be The Money” with Harvey Stripes, with the song and music video gaining heavy rotation.

Influenced by different artists, from Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga to Jay-Z, Cpt. Hooks makes music that appeals to a wider audience. For him, “music is an art that has no boundaries on creativity.” In 2011 he aims to gain more exposure and continually strive to improves as an artist.
